“Baby, you were born this way!” –Lady Gaga
YES! I proudly and warmly welcome members of the LGBTQ+ community.
I currently have more than a dozen transgender clients which includes transgender women as well as transgender men. I work about evenly on facial hair removal as well as surgery preparation. I am constantly seeking to improve my skills with the goal of reducing pain as much as possible while ensuring I am killing the hairs confidently.
For transgender women in particular, hair removal is a time consuming, expensive, and painful process. For GAV/GRS prep, the area must be cleared several times over the course of 1 to 2 years in order to ensure dormant hairs do not grow in the future.
Do NOT procrastinate!
Start electrolysis as soon as you have decided to get surgery or if you even plan to have surgery in the future. Some surgeons will not schedule the surgery until you have met their electrolysis guidelines, and others will reschedule your surgery date if they find out you have not completed this process.
If you have not yet selected a surgeon, I highly recommend getting consultations with at least 2 if not 3 surgeons. Expect to be added to a waiting list that exceeds a year or even two years. However, this will give you plenty of time to do multiple clearings of the surgical areas.
Please discuss the recommended hair removal process and timeline with your surgeon so there are no surprises later on, and please share this documentation with me since the guidelines are constantly evolving.
Hormones
Pubic skin is particularly affected by fluctuations in hormone levels. Transgender people are typically committed to hormone replacement therapy for life. The removal of gonads and changes in prescription medications can cause new hair growth. Thus, you should start preparing for surgery well ahead of time to ensure most if not all of the active terminal hairs have been removed from your body.
Do not take shortcuts. Do you want hair growing out of your surgical site?
Your future self will thank you–or curse you.
